Beisbolista estadounidense, uno de los mejores atacantes y tal vez el más fiero competidor de la historia del béisbol. Se unió a los Detroit Pistons en 1905; bateaba como zurdo, pero lanzaba como diestro. Pasó 22 temporadas como jardinero (defensa) en los Detroit Tigers, y luego los dirigió entre 1921 y 1926. Su récord de promedio de bateo a lo largo de su trayectoria (0,366) aún no ha sido superado; los de carreras impulsadas (1.937), carreras anotadas (2.245) y batazos conectados (4.189) se mantuvieron durante largos años. Bateó al menos 0,300 en 23 temporadas consecutivas, récord de todos los tiempos, y los tres años en que bateó más de 0,400 también representan una marca. Su registro de bases robadas a lo largo de toda su trayectoria (892), obtenido en parte gracias a la fiereza con que usaba sus botines, sólo fue batido en 1979. En 1936, en la primera elección para el Salón de la Fama del béisbol, Cobb recibió el mayor número de votos.
